Town: Wakeham is a small hamlet situated in a conservation area on the eastern side of the rugged ‘Isle’ of Portland above the beach at Church Ope Cove. The wide road running through the centre was constructed to accommodate the transport of Portland Stone by horse drawn carts from the numerous local quarries.
