Positive: What an absolutely PERFECT stay! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two nights in Oshino. We booked a Maisonette style room but we were still blown away by the size of the room. It was two stories of beauty and simplicity. We could not wait to soak in the in-room onsen, which was very relaxing after a week and a half walking around Japan. We felt beyond cozy in our room and the outdoor garden was very relaxing, great for reflecting, and had a stunning view of Mt. Fuji. But the star of this Ryokan was the food and the service. A major reason we chose to stay here instead of Hakone was due to the lack of properties willing to accommodate my wife's vegetarian diet or my allergies. This was not a problem at all for the chef at this property and my wife's food was more than just an afterthought. Her food was intentionally created so that substitutions made sense and the food tasted good. Both breakfast and dinner were an experience and we felt like we were being served like royalty. Our attendant even commented that the chef was surprised that we always ate almost all the food he sent out. It was so good, we could not resist. We hope to be back again one day!
