Villa Istron is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom hillside villa, a short drive away from the ancient town of Istron on the northeast coastline of Crete, sleeping up to six guests. This modern villa offers the ideal accommodation for a family or friends’ vacation, it’s a great base for relaxing by the pool or sunbathing on the many sandy beaches style of holiday, or for the more adventurous there are lots to explore in this back to nature destination.
Set over two storeys, the villa has a dedicated parking space; enter at the ground floor level where you will find a cool and contemporary welcome; the villa is decorated in neutral natural colours with hints of Mediterranean blue highlights. Complimentary Wi-Fi, blue tooth speakers, and air conditioning and heating is available throughout the villa. A large open plan sitting room is home to a plush sofa, armchairs, useful side tables and a large flat-screen TV; the patio doors open out onto the terrace and benefits from picturesque mountain views. The kitchen is fully-equipped with the latest electrical equipment, and an attractive white dining set seats up to six guests. There are two bedrooms on the entry-level floor; the first is the master bedroom, with a large double bed and picture length windows with doors that open onto the pool terrace. The second bedroom is a twin room with an en-suite walk-in shower, washbasin and WC, and a door that leads to the side of the villa. There is also a separate marble family bathroom complete with full-size bath and shower, washbasin and WC.
Take the stairs to the lower ground floor and there you will find the third bedroom, with twin beds and an en-suite shower room. For fun throughout your holiday, a games room boasts a table tennis table, as well as a billiards-pool table, a flat-screen TV with DVD player and lounge seating area, the perfect place to enjoy some family and friends’ fun, catch up on your favourite movies, or relax after a hard day’s sunbathing. The terrace is beautifully appointed with a private pool measuring an impressive twenty-seven by fourteen feet, sunbeds with comfy blue cushions, a pergola with a dining table that seats up to six for shaded alfresco dining, and a barbeque to rustle up some supper all with a backdrop of the Istron hillside. A short fifteen-minute walk downhill takes you to the cafes, bars, tavernas, and shops of the town of Istron with its two blue flag public beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea.

Location:
The villa is set in the hillside of Istron, just one hours drive from Heraklion International Airport, and twenty minutes from Agios Nikolaos, the largest town on the northeastern coast of Crete. A short five minute downhill drive will take you into the centre of Istron, where you will find useful mini markets, souvenir shops, welcoming tavernas, and a number of bars, as well as two local beaches, one pebbly, one sandy. The ancient town of Istron dates back to at least 250BC and is ideally positioned in the beautiful Mirabello Bay.
The area is soaked in history, particularly Minoan and Dorian, conquered by the Venetians in the fifteenth century, who built fortresses to keep the Ottoman pirates at bay, then finally gaining independence in the nineteenth century and becoming part of Greece. Istron is considered Crete’s most unspoilt region and makes an excellent base for nature lovers as well as holidaymakers. Don’t miss a visit to Fourini, a local traditional Greek village, explore the three hundred caves the island hides, hike over hillsides, streams, and rocky ravines to discover watermills and ruins, and stop along the way at a local winery and taste the fruits of the many vineyards.
If you prefer sea to land, take a boat trip where you can scuba or snorkel underwater ruins, and strap on your jet skis or paraglide with one of the many water sports clubs. For the beach babies, this area of Crete is pure paradise, take a romantic walk on the long sandy beach of Voulisma or Golden Beach, get active in the wind-sheltered Ammoudara Beach, famous for its water sports, relax in the exclusive Elounda Bay, or sit in a taverna sipping ouzo on the thick sand of Pacheia Ammos, a protected bay with a small harbour.
Go further afield to Vai, Crete’s easternmost tip, an hour and a half drive away, where you will find lush forests and a unique date palm. Discover blue flag beaches in Lerapetra, off the coast of the Libyan Sea. Explore Psychro Cave, reputedly the birthplace of Zeus, and rock climb Mount Ida to find the Ideon Cave. Sitia Geopark is three hundred and fifty square kilometres of the island’s diverse eco-system, where you can go through gorges, bathe on beaches, walk the wetlands, become a bird-watcher, and be at one with nature. Get active and hike the Richtis Gorge, stroll through streams to reach the twenty-metre waterfall, where you can cool off in the inviting pool. Find peace and solitude in the fifteenth century Toplou Monastery, an hour and a half drive through the Cretan countryside to see beautiful Byzantine icons.
Visit the intriguing island of Spinalonga, a former leper colony until as recently as the 1950s, home to a Venetian fortress and now an open-air museum. No visit to Istron is complete without a trip into Agios Nikolaos, a harbour town that uniquely houses a lake in its centre; it is home to the archaeological museum stuffed full of Minoan treasures and is host to a plethora of tavernas, shops, bars, and restaurants in which to sit and watch the local life go by.
