Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: This is a budget accommodation and as such, perhaps should be rated for very basic features. The room was clean and the water was hot. The staff was nice, and the building was well located in the medina and felt safe.

Negative: As mentioned, the basics of the property were fine for a budget accommodation ($30-$70/night) That said, other travellers should know that this riad may not live up to the surprisingly high number of very high (even '10' ratings) for this property. Also, some strange things happened at check-in that gave us a funny feeling about it all. On first arrival outside the medina, the property representative met us and took us to a different riad, where we were told that they had problems with Booking.com, the original property was fully booked and we would not be able to there (Riad Nayum, also now known as Riad Skofil?), but in this other place. Maybe we should have taken the switch, but it seemed very odd, so after some discussion they confirmed that they did have our reservation and they took us to Riad Nayum/Skofil. Then they told us to be sure to cancel the booking with Booking.com (which would have cost us the full price of the entire reservation, unless the property later agreed to refund it to us) and pay them cash. Apparently the web details always stated that we were to pay cash, so after a call to Booking.com (which offered to cancel all the charges and help us find another place to stay) - and the fact that it was getting late and the riad seemed acceptable - we did pay cash and stayed there during our visit to Fes. The stay was acceptable but nothing to rate very highly. The toilet seat was broken and the shower stopped up, so that after a few minutes of showering the whole bathroom floor would get flooded. They gave us extra towels to soak it up and said they would be fixing it when they could. Again, the staff were nice and the property was acceptable if you're looking for clean, central and low-cost. But I'm a little perplexed by the high ratings which attracted us to book there, and we would try to stay elsewhere in Fes if we go back.

Summary: Acceptable for the price, but wouldn't be our first choice in Fes
