Positive: The Residencial is located in the centre of Funchal Old Town, next to the iconic Markets. It is a bit old fashioned, but the room was comfortable, well equipped (en-suite, Cable Tv, and a Fan). A real bonus was the shared kitchen, where you can keep things in the fridge, make hot drinks or heat up food. The room was cleaned daily by a friendly cleaner. I was nervous before going there as the price was so low, but I had nothing to worry about, it was great, and I will certainly stay there again. Very close to a large Supermarket for your shopping, bus stops, and the Cable Car Station, for getting around the Island. Selection of Bars and Eateries nearby.
Negative: A few, could be negatives, but they weren't a problem for me - lots of stairs and no Lift. It was August and the room did get hot, but a Fan was provided, so it was fine. You can get some general hustle and bustle noise from the Market opposite, if you have your window open, but I think that this added to the character of staying in the Old Town rather than a Tourist Resort.
Summary: An absolute gem - best value for money in Madeira by far
